Are you new to photography or aiming to expand your knowledge past the automatic camera settings? 📸🤳

Do you love photographing animals and birds?

Join Drew Cunningham and Grant Keelan at Fife Zoo to learn new photography skills and capture stunning shots of our resident animals.

10am to 4pm - Fridays & Saturdays - May to Sept - 2026

Booking is essential, and spaces are limited.

All participants are encouraged to bring their own camera (ideally an SLR); the minimum requirement is a phone camera with pro settings (iso/aperture/shutter speed)

The classes are suited to anyone 16 and older

Small classes of 10 max guarantee a decent amount of time with the animals

Both Drew and Grant are proficient in a range of camera types.

🦎🐦 Animal Keeper Work Placement – Fife Zoo

Looking to kickstart your career in the zoo industry? We’re offering a 12-month voluntary placement with hands-on experience across birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and more.

You’ll gain practical husbandry skills, support conservation projects, take part in education sessions, and learn from industry specialists — all while working with a small, supportive team.

What you need:
✔️ Studying (or completed) an animal/environmental course (HND, FdSc or Degree)
✔️ Passion for animal care and conservation
✔️ Ability to commit to full-time hours (5 days over 7)
✔️ Financial support for the duration (stipend may be available)

We only offer 4 placements, giving you real experience and close support throughout.

Flexible opportunities available — including potential sandwich year placements and dissertation support.

You’ll be supported in your role, receive ongoing training, and have opportunities to engage with the wider zoo industry while representing Fife Zoo.

What we’re looking for:
✔️ DMZAA or BSc (or equivalent in an animal-related subject)
✔️ Minimum 1 year’s experience (Keeper) or 3 years (Senior Keeper)
❗ Applications without these will not be considered

Salary is dependent on experience and reviewed after probation.

It's with a heavy heart that we had to say goodbye to Travis the porcupine this week 💔

After a short illness, we had to make the the decision to say goodbye.

We don't have a huge amount of history for Travis. He was smuggled into the UK and seized by the authorities before making his way to us in 2017.

He had a huge personality and was a firm favourite with keepers, volunteers and visitors.

Over the weekend Mike and Matt travelled down to @draytonmanor for the annual @abwak Symposium.

The symposium is the UK and Irelands largest zookeeping event, with industry experts and practical workshops on everything from Emergency Animal First Aid and Safe Firearms Use to Native Species Conservation and Dart Preparation.

Mike is part of the small volunteer team of ABWAK Council members responsible for organising the event, and Matt led the Zoo Exhibit Design workshop and sat on the expert panel (with his Zoo Inspector hat on) discussing the new legislation changes.
